CVSA’s Operation Safe Driver Week: July 14-20

CVSA keeping North America’s highways safe with Operation Safe Driver week

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) Operation Safe Driver Week is here. Throughout the week of July 14th through July 20th, law enforcement nation-wide will be on the lookout for commercial vehicle and passenger vehicle drivers engaging in dangerous behavior.

This year’s Safe Driver Week will focus on speeding, but law enforcement will be watching and issuing warnings and citations for all unsafe driving behaviors. Forms of unsafe driving behaviors include:

  • Distracted Driving
  • Texting While Driving
  • Failure to use Seatbelt
  • Following too Closely
  • Improper Lane Change
  • Reckless/ Aggressive Driving
  • Failure to Obey Traffic Control Devices
  • Evidence of Drunk/Drugged Driving

CVSA reported that during last year’s Operation Safe Driver Week, 16,909 passenger vehicle drivers and 1,908 commercial motor vehicle drivers were issued citations for speeding. FMCSA’s 2016 Large Truck and Bus Facts reported, “speeding of any kind was the most frequent driver-related crash factor for drivers of commercial motor vehicles.” For those reasons, CVSA’s focus on speeding this year will promote the message: “Late Won’t Kill you, Speeding Will.”

Operation Safe Driver Week is to help reduce the number of crashes and injuries involving commercial vehicles due to unsafe driving behaviors.  Here at Odyssey, Safety is always our number one priority. To find out more about Operation Safe-Driver Week, visit the program page here.
